Athens Max Wendell Carsey, 87, passed away on Friday morning, March 7, 2025 at The Laurels of Athens. The son of Jesse Wendell Carsey and Elpha Eileen Russell Carsey was born at home on the family farm, April 25, 1937. Preceding Max in death were his parents, brother Seldon Carsey, sister Marilyn Cade, daughter Connie Steortz, and father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Pauline Martin. Survivors are his wife of 64 years Sallie Martin Carsey, daughter Karen Smith, husband Pat and daughter Christy Lee, husband Donald. Grandchildren A.J. Smith, fiancée Stephanie and great granddaughters Kolby and Kennedy, Grant Smith, wife Olivia, Jesse Adams, Kendra Lee Donnelly, husband Ryan. Also surviving is sister-in-law Peggy Carsey, along with several nieces and nephews.Max was a barber on Court Street for over 60 years. He started barber school in Columbus, Ohio, the day after his high school graduation in May 1955. In December of that same year, he started work with his father on Court Street. The
