Athens Mary Diles of Athens died peacefully at The Lindley Inn on August 18, 2024 at the age of 95. Mary was born in Denver, CO and raised in Billings, MT and Pasadena, CA. Her father, John Heaton, was a trailblazer in the hearing aid industry. Mary enrolled at Miami of Ohio to study vocal music, and there she met her beloved husband of 62 years, returning WW2 GI, Bill Diles. They were married in 1949 and lived in Hartford, CT and Baltimore, MD before moving to Athens in 1960 with their 3 children. Mary was full of life. She and Bill founded Diles Hearing Center, which still helps folks hear better today. Mary was a lover of all people - when the first international students arrived at Ohio University in the 1960s, she was the self-appointed official welcomer, meeting the arriving bus in the middle of the night and always offering them a festive meal at her home during university holidays.
