Walter David Mitchell, age 66, a beloved figure of Nelsonville, sadly left our world on August 18, 2024, after a life richly lived in service and kindness. Walter, lovingly referred to as Steve, was a beacon of light and hope in our community, touching lives through his dedication to the Nelsonville Fire Department as well as his active membership in the Elks Lodge #543 and the Masonic Lodge. Steve also helped shape the minds of our area youth by volunteering as a coach and referee. He retired from a successful career at Pepsi Cola in 2012 and was a 1976 graduate of Nelsonville High School. Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Charlotte Mitchell and siblings, Dennis Mitchell, Jeff Mitchell, and Marsha (Mitchell) King; and leaving a legacy through his surviving siblings, Michael Mitchell, Jan Mitchell, Rick Mitchell, and Doug Mitchell; his loving wife, Janet (Groce) Mitchell; his children, Tricia Wharton, Christina (James) Perry, Stephanie (David) Barley, Sara (Jarrett) Smith,
